My client is using QBES6 with an integrated app written using Alpha5 and QODBC. The sync was working fine until he upgraded QBPOS to the latest version. That POS installation removed QODBC. So I downloaded the new QODBC8 but it's not working. The test connection is successful in QB, but the app just sits there when run from Alpha5. My first question is why did POS uninstall QODBC and second, does QODBC8 work with QBES6? If so, how do you configure QB to work with QODBC properly?

Thanks.

The latest version of QODBC can be found at: How can I get the latest version of QODBC? , including the last build for each previous major version. You need to check the "About" screen in the QODBC Setup Screen for what type of licence the client has. It sounds like the installation of QBPOS has overriden QuickBooks Enterprise 6, so QODBC no longer works in QODBC Enterprise Read Only mode?

Regardless of the license situation, if you use a sample company file, you can test if you can get a connection, but QODBC is for use with QuickBooks, not QBPOS. You also need to check that you are using Release 8.0.0.240 as we corrected some licensing issues with QBES when multiple versions are installed on the same computer.

If a customer has purchased a previous full version of Desktop Edition of QODBC, then they need to purchase a new QODBC CD Key for QuickBooks 2008. They can't use the QBES version.

The QBES version is only for QuickBooks Enterprise users that haven't licensed a full version of QODBC in the past. The normal method of transferring from any full QODBC Desktop Read Only or Read/Write Edition to the QODBC Enterprise Desktop Edition is to first deactivate the QODBC Desktop Edition on the computer (see: How do I deactivate QODBC? How do I transfer my license to my new computer? ). Once that's done QODBC should run in QODBC Enterprise Desktop Edition mode providing your customer is using QuickBooks Enterprise (not QuickBooks Point of Sale).
