Sounds like your have QuickBooks 2007/08. The workaround for this is fairly simple -- if you go to your QuickBooks program files directory and COPY qbw32.exe to qbw32<flavor>.exe where <flavor> is the flavor of QuickBooks you have installed, in your case QBW32premiergeneric.exe.
Then follow the: How do I connect to QuickBooks for the first time? procedure. |

Thanks Tom, Yes I have Quickbooks 2007/08. I am running on a multi user PC, using just the sample company file until i get the QODBC working.
Prior to my previous post, I made a copy of qb32.exe, and then re-named it to qb32premiergeneric.exe. Is this OK, or do i have to have a file called qbw32premiergeneric first ?
If so, where do i get such a file please ? |

Just use qbw32.exe. Please ensure you have registered your copy of QuickBooks with Quicken (Reckon in Sydney). |

I got the same error "Begin Session Failed. Error = 80040408, Could not start QuickBooks." and tried the steps in this thread. It still does not work.
Environment Win 2003 Server, QuickBooks Enterprise Wholesale 2007 USA.

My copy is registered with Intuit and it used to connect earlier to both, VB Demo and to my ColdFusion application. Just after I reinstalled QODBC with a new extended trial license (on my development system), it stopped working and produced this error: "Begin Session Failed. Error = 80040408, Could not start QuickBooks." |

It works now . What had happened is that when I reinstalled the QODBC driver, the "Use Remote connector" check box somehow got unchecked, and produced the error. |

Yes, unfortunately when you re-install QODBC all the default settings are restored including the optimizer settings, so I always have to go into the QODBC Setup screen and reset my options back to the way I had them. |
