Does QB Enterprise 7.0 connect to the Remote Connector?

My Custom Access Application was connecting to QB Enterprise 7.0 through the included version of QODBC with the Trial-Version installed over top. It worked properly until the 30 day trial expired.

Now, QODBC works with the LOCAL Quick Books Install, but connecting to the Remote Connector causes the following error: " [QODBC] Only Licensed for use with Enterprise Version. Please contact your dealer for an upgrade."

What do I need to do?

You need to update QODBC to the latest build, see: How can I get the latest version of QODBC?

This problem was corrected in: Release 8.0.0.234 Fixes

Check the version on both machines and the QODBC Setup Screen About tab for the license type. If they don't say QODBC Enterprise Edition and show a Serial No, then the QODBC full product license will need to be deactivated.

Both Systems say:

"QODBC Desktop Read Only 2007 Version 8.00.00.240"

How do I remove the 'full' version, license the Enterprise Version, but KEEP the remote connector/vbDemo software installed?
ALSO, once this is resolved, I'm considering purchasing the read-write version to perform bulk price updates. I have Excel files with hundreds of new costs and prices that I need to update for existing products in QB. I was planning on using Access to 'import' the data, then find and update the individual Records in the ItemInventory Table. Of course I'll need the read-write version on my development machine. Is there anything else I need to know about? Anywhere else I need to change Costs and base Prices? Thanks.

Ok, you need to be either running the FREE QODBC Read Only Enterprise Edition on both computers or the QODBC Read/Write Desktop Edition on both computers.

To convert a licensed version of QODBC to Enterprise Edition, simply deactivate the full license as per: How do I deactivate QODBC? How do I transfer my license to my new computer?  Which install file you used doesn't really matter, the full product install is better than the cutdown version Intuit require, but if a CD Key is used, the company file can't be used using the FREE QODBC Enterprise Edition mode.

Tom, I have yet to purchase, or receive a 'CD KEY', unless it is same as my QuickBooks Enterprise 7.0 install key. Therefore, I cannot deactivate my current versions. Following the instructions required this key. So, here in overview is what I need.

Quickbooks Enterprise 7.0 Server connecting to several Client machines via the QODBC iBiz Remote Connector, with ONE client (development) machine using the full Read/Write Edition to handle update/Changes. All other Client Machines can be read-only.

What I currently have. Quickbooks Enterprise 7.0 and QODBC 8.00.00.240 installed on both the Server and multiple clients. I arrived at this by installing the 'Newest Version" over top of the "Enterprise Version" that came with Quickbooks. This installation initiated the 30 day trial, which has now expired. EVERY machine says, "QODBC Desktop Read Only 2007 Version 8.00.00.240" with NO Serial  Number.  I cannot deactivate without a CD-Key. I am planning (probably today if this problem can be resolved) to purchase the read/write version for my development machine. BUT, if I have to purchase it for ALL the clients, that is a different story. What options do I have?  How can I get the Remote Connector to work again? How do I change between "CD Key Mode, and "Free QODBC Enterprise Edition Mode?" THANKS for the Help.

You need to first setup QODBC and use VB Demo on the server with QuickBooks on it. Change the QODBC settings to use the QODBC Remote Connector, start up the iBiz Remote Connector and connect through the remote connector on the server. Once that works copy the settings to the remote computer client and connect through the clients.

See:    I do not want to install QuickBooks on every machine. How do I setup QODBC Remote?

I contacted the US sales department and requested a 30-day trial extension CD-key. I received it, and activated it on both the server and my client machine. AHA! Connection! At this point, BOTH versions were the Server Edition, 30 Day Trial, as expected.

I then deactivated the Trial Version off my Server. This returned the version to "QODBC Desktop Read Only 2007 Version 8.00.00.240," and broke connectivity. I then deactivated the Trial Version off my client and -- Same Thing! "QODBC Desktop Read Only 2007 Version 8.00.00.240" is now its stated version as well, and NO connectivity through the remote connector.  Also, NO license key or CD-Key is shown. How do I get back to the Enterprise Version?

I'd also like to make SURE before I purchase a Read/Write license that it will connect to my server and not interfere with my clients running the Enterprise Version. Is this possible?

The use of the QODBC Remote Connector belongs to a full product license (or 30 day evaluation), not the FREE Enterprise Edition.

I DO have to purchase the Full Product Licenses for ALL my clients and the Server? IF I purchase Read-Only Licenses for each client and the Server, and ONE Read/Write License for my Development machine, will all connect properly?

You should get the QODBC Read/Write Desktop Edition for all the computers on the network. Contact your sales office for the special pricing for the 5 and 15 seat packs.
