I was able to get QODBC to connect to my company file, finally. I did the link tables in Access and it took 30 minutes for the tables to be loaded into access. I wrote my query and ran it. It is only querying the data in the table at that moment. When I used to run it, the driver would automatically update the table when I ran the new query. Now it is not.
Maybe I'm not doing it right this time around. I went to tables. Clicked on New and Link tables. "Select Data Source" >>Machine Data Source>>I used my DSN I created in the configurator and the Type is "system". It lags for 45 seconds and the window with all the tables pops up. I select my tables. I run my query and the Driver status box comes up. For the Customer table it shows "Customer. Find next Record. 1 of 500. It stays on 1 for 5 mintues. I know there are more than 500 records. On the PurchaseOrderLine table it shows 1098 of 1098 then 2014 of 2014 and runs really fast and turns back to 0 and starts over.
This definitely didn't happen before. When I ran the query before it would only lag for about 30 seconds and my results were there.
Sorry. We were running QB Premier 2007(still running) and Ver. 7 driver. We upgraded our server to Windows Server 2003. The actual server hardware itself and the software. Our previous set up was just a basic file sharing network and was run off XP Pro. I also upgraded the driver to V8, with the hopes that this would fix all the problems. I tried those optimizer settings and they didn't do anything.
When you change the optimizer settings and your hardware you need to unlink all the QODBC tables in your existing MS Access .mdb(s) and then relink them to use the new connection settings.
Ok. I did all that you listed. It is running, the customer table is on 2 of 500 and has been for the past 20 minutes and the Purchaseorderline table will go to 1098 and start over.
I also forgot to mention that after having the initial connection problems, I uninstalled/reinstalled QuickBooks and deleted the original ODBC connections.
Should I have a file DSN as shown in the Access instructions?
No you should always use a QODBC SYSTEM DSN which in MS Access is shown as a MACHINE DATA SOURCE Type: SYSTEM. I do suggest you turn off the driver status box and using VB Demo to ensure your installation of QODBC is working correctly before using MS Access.
