For the last year I have been using QB 7.0 with the QODBC 7.0 driver that came along with it.   My Access 2000 reports worked pretty good with the linked tables... I had to wait a little bit sometimes, but it was tolerable.  The point is it worked and I didn't have to jump through hoops to make it work.   I recently rebuilt my entire PC from the operating system up (hard drive replacement) and installed QB 8.0 with the corresponding QOBDC 8.0 driver. I am now experiencing an ENORMOUS speed problem.   Reports take over an hour to run... effectively useless.

I am currently using a pretty powerful PC with adequate memory and a clean operating system (Win XP)... in single user mode... nothing else running... all data locally. I am not trying to do anything funny like remote desktop or even accessing through a network. This is really basic stuff.   The size of the Quickbooks file is only 103,000 KB.  I have like 600 customers and 14,000 invoices.

Respectfully,

Tim

When you updated to QODBC v8 (and now v9) all the installation defaults got reinstated. For MS Access 2003 or 2007 to work correctly you must first check that you are running QODBC v8.0.0.240 or higher (see: How can I get the latest version of QODBC? ) and then change your optimization settings to use the The start of every new connection (with "Load Updated Data" first) option and confirm that the Multi-Table Sync option has been disabled. If not, uncheck the Multi-Table Sync option as this is often defaulted on (checked) with QuickBooks Enterprise and the QODBC Enterprise Desktop Edition.

Once this has been done, unlink all the QODBC tables in your existing MS Access .mdb(s) and then relink them to use these new connection settings.

For the complete details of all the QODBC optimizer settings, see: How do I setup the QODBC Optimizer? Where are the Optimizer options?
