I have a routine that writes a journal entry as a combination of JournalEntryDebitLine and JournalEntryCreditLine postings.

When I include a gl account that is a sales tax account, it looks like everything works fine from my code without any error messages but when I look in QuickBooks the postings are not there.  I have the same problem when posting these same transactions from the VB Demo.

I think I have it narrowed down:  When I try creating the same transaction in Quickbooks->Journal Entry, Quickbooks asks if I want to specify the tax code for the tax line, I specify the tax code for the line and everything works fine.

I have looked in the JournalEntryDebitLine and JournalEntryCreditLine tables and there is no place to populate the tax code and without it the whole journal entry is aborted when I try to create it.  Where do I put the sales tax code so I can get this to work?

Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Marcel.

Sorry, the GST extensions have not been implemented in the qbXML SDK by Intuit for Canada, Australia or New Zealand, so the GST Tax columns do not appear when doing  "JournalEntryCreditLine" and "JournalEntryDebitLine" inserts

Please see: Journals and Tax using the 2005/06 Australian version of QuickBooks?

So there is no other way to do this and I am just out of luck?  This seems incredibly short sighted on QuickBooks part.  Any idea of when this will be corrected? (I am using qodbc 8 and quickbooks 2008).

Using the QuickBooks User Interface is the only way, but things are gotten worse, see: Two Versions of Canadian QuickBooks 2008

Hi Tom,

Do you know if this issue has been corrected in qodbc9/quickbooks 2009?

I need to be able to do Journal Entries that includes tax accounts in Canada.

Thanks,

Marcel.

QODBC v9 and Canadian and UK versions of QuickBooks 2008 as well as Australian, New Zealand and Asia versions of QuickBooks QBi 2008/09 all now support GST (VAT) in journal entries.

Tax in journals was added in the qbXML SDK 6.1 by Reckon here in Sydney, Australia and the fix was sent back to Canada and UK. Only QODBC v9 is mapped to use SDK 6.1 correctly.
