Two Versions of Canadian QuickBooks 2008

Intuit Canada will be offering two different versions of QuickBooks 2008 to its customers. The primary version will use SDK 6.0 (used in the USA version of QuickBooks 2007), and will not support multicurrency. This will be the most widely available version.

The second version will support multicurrency, and will continue to use SDK 3.0CA (that's part of the Canadian version of QuickBooks 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007), including the multicurrency features documented by the qbXML 3.0CA Onscreen Reference. Intuit Canada will only sell this version directly to consumers over the phone — not through resellers.

Incompatibility Between SDK 6.0 and SDK 3.0CA
Please be aware that for SDK purposes, these two versions of QuickBooks 2008 are not compatible with each other, because it's not possible to have both SDK 6.0 and SDK 3.0CA installed on a computer at the same time.

How the problem manifests depends on what order the customer installs the two products. The basic principals of the incompatibility are:
  • You can only have one SDK at a time on the computer.
  • The SDK that came with the last version of QuickBooks you installed will predominate over all previous versions.
  • The second-to-last version of QuickBooks will not work with the SDK from the last version, and
  • In no case will an SDK3.0 CA (multicurrency features) application work with the primary Canadian version of QuickBooks 2008.
If you install QuickBooks 2008 over QuickBooks 2007, SDK 6.0 replaces SDK 3.0CA, which makes applications that require SDK 3.0CA (such as Customer Manager) no longer work with any version of QuickBooks.

QODBC v8
In order to support all Canadian customers, QODBC will continue to work with either SDK 6.0 or SDK3.0CA. Because QODBC uses the Intuit qbXML SDK it's important to only have one version of the SDK installed on your computer.

QODBC users should note that there are currently several known issues with using Intuit's qbXML SDK v6 with QuickBooks 2008 Canadian Edition.

Here's Intuit's reply to our bug posting regarding: No Data is Returned from Estimate table . Along with a list of other things that are broken:

Yes, this is a known issue. This bug (QBCA001426) is in the list of QB_CA_2008 issues (see below) we recently escalated to QB_CA engineering team. They are actively working on fixing them. We don't have an ETA as of yet but the release of these fixes are likely in a patch release of QB.

Thanks,
- Iqbal

These issues were fixed in the update "R4P", I believe the Canadian version is on R5P now.
