Yesterday (7/17/07) I tried to establish a connection to QBOE but the "QODBC Driver for QuickBooks" dialog box popped up.  The box states that my evaluation has expired.  I purchased a license March 30, 2007.  I click the activate button, enter my CD Key provided and click activate.  The activation dialog box appears and indicates the activation was successful.  I then try to use QODBC and the above process repeats.  QBOE made some upgrades 7/16/07, could this be the problem?  Surely I don't have to repurchase QODBC every time QB performs minor updates to Online Edition?!  Thanks

In the about tab in the QODBC setup screen what is your Serial No.? (I don't need your CD Key).

I've reported your findings to the QODBC Software Engineer for further investigation.

Intuit recently upgraded the major version number for QBOE from 14 to 18. Using our standard calculations, version 18 for us equates to QuickBooks 2009. QODBC Version 7 for QuickBooks 2007 doesn't work with QuickBooks 2009.

You must update QODBC to release 7.1.0.230 or higher. See: How can I get the latest version of QODBC?

Note: In order to use this version of QODBC you must have an current QODBC registration code version 7 (a R07... or W07... serial number) or higher.

A new fix is now available, see: Release 8.0.0.236 Fixes

Tom:

I updated my version with 8.0.0.236 and the connection failed.  A dialog box popped up and said I needed API Version 1 or 2.  I removed version 8.0.0.236 and reinstalled.  Now when I try to activate the software a dialog box pops up and says "Error communicating to the QODBC activation server."  Any idea how I can fix this and get back up and running?

When you installed 8.0.0.236, all the QODBC settings were changed back to their defaults. So you need to go through all the settings again for QBOE (see: How do I use QODBC with QuickBooks Online? ).

If you can't communicate with the QODBC Activation Server there is a manual method shown at: How do I activate QODBC? I get an error from the QODBC activation server? but you shouldn't need to re-activate QODBC unless you deactivated (which you should never do if you intend to use the same computer). Check the about tab in the QODBC Setup Screen first.

Tom:

I have tried reinstalling 8.00.00.236 and re-setting up all my options.  When I try to Test Connection to QuickBooks the connection fails and I get the following explanation when I review QODBC Messages:

2007-10-18 11:46:34 QODBC Ver:  8.00.00.236 *********************************************************************************************************************
IsAService: False
Begin Session Failed. S0000 00000 [QODBC] QB Begin Session Failed. Error Calling OpenQBConnection Returned Error: 881 - [10061] Connection refused:  (Error: 0xfffffffc).
Begin Session errors can be caused when running ASP or other system service and not setting the "Advanced" button option of either "Use DCOM Servers" or "Remote Connector"

What am I doing wrong??  Thanks.

Sorry, I've now established that QODBC v8.00.00.236 did not fix the connection issues with QuickBooks Online Edition (QBOE). It appears that the 7.0.DTD file posted by Intuit was invalid and we have to now move to QuickBooks 2008.

Until it get's posted as the main product release, the full install for QODBC v8.00.00.237 can be downloaded from:

http://www.qodbc.com\download\build237.exe

You will now need to install QODBC v8.00.00.237 and purchase a new CD Key for QuickBooks 2008.

Note: When you install 8.0.0.237, all the QODBC settings may revert back to their defaults. So you need to check all the settings again for QBOE . See: How do I use QODBC with QuickBooks Online?

I had the same problem, I purchased version 8 and installed it and it fixed everything.

However now the problems are right back again. It pops up and says that it is an expired Evaluation.  I upgraded to the most recent  version and the problem persists.  See screenshot.   Setup says it is activated, but when you use VB Demo or any program to connect, you get the activation required screen.

Ouch!, it appears that the license corrections in Build 238, 239 and 240 for Adagio and QBES have broken the connection to QuickBooks online again. As there are no feature enhancements in these new builds, please revert back to Build 237, here's the download link: http://www.qodbc.com\download\build237.exe

This should have you running again. The problem has been reported to the QODBC Software Engineer under QSupport Ticket ID: OE00000005

I think build 237 is broken too.  please check

I am posting a screenshot so you can see...  The 237 build was installed but the same thing happens when hitting QBOE with vbdemo.

Thanks

Georg

Sorry, it now seems Intuit have jumped to rev. 20 of QBOE. This is the third QBOE version change since Sept. You will need to update to QODBC v8.00.00.241 when the fix is available.

Can build 241 have some better QBOE support that does not require these constant updates?  It is driving me (and customer) crazy!   Thanks for the quick responses.

Is 241 available?  I just purchased a new license and QODBC is telling me it is expired.

Not yet, I've chased up this issue directly with the President of FLEXquarters.com LLC. So it has their attention.

Hello Tom!  Please allow me to add my voice to the chorus of disgruntled customers - I just purchased my THIRD license (second was just 4 months ago!) and downloaded the 8.0.0.240 build.  As you know, and I just learned, it's not compatible with the current version of QuickBooks.

First, can your dev team PLEASE work out a way to have the software indicate when the problem is with either the license key or the OE version?  Crashes and "Notify Microsoft" dialogs aren't helpful debugging tools.  The activation screen should NOT indicate success while the other status screen shows "Expired Evaluation".

As a small-time developer, I understand the complexities of software design and maintenance, and I'm sympathetic to the fact you aren't in control of the QBOE end of the connection.  But having to constantly update the software (new key or not) every few months is frustrating.  I don't have a large time window to run billing for my employer and I can only start the process once our end of month closes.  These delays cause stress I don't need here.

Another frustration is the seeming high frequency of needing to buy new keys.  Is there no way to set up the license scheme to allow for x number of months or y number of upgrades?  At the rate things are going, I'll be having to buy my 4th key in early 2008...  I wish there was a clear indication from the program when a new KEY was needed versus a code update.

The QODBC software is fantastic for our needs, WHEN IT RUNS.  We've saved so much time per month creating customer invoices via QODBC that the cost IS justified, but our ROI is being eaten up by this rash of paid upgrades that don't last.

I eagerly await .241 or any new version that will work, and thank you and your team for all your hard work!  Happy Holidays!

Basically QODBC is for one version of QuickBooks and a new CD Key is required to be purchased each year when QuickBooks is upgraded. QBOE users have had it lucky because only two CK Keys have been required to be purchased since 2005.

I've sugguested that we ignore the major revision of QBOE and instead do a 12 month subscription instead, after all QBOE itself is a subcription service. In the meantime please contact Mark at the USA Sales Office directly for your resolution to this issue on: 800-932-6448 or +1 248-360-7842

With the release of QODBC v8.0.0.243 (and higher), a QODBC CD Key will be good for the version it was brought with when using QBOE, so a .08........ serial number will now be good for use with QuickBooks Online Edition as long as you continue to use QODBC v8, but it will not work with QODBC v9.

An advance copy of QODBC v8.0.0.243 can be downloaded using this link: http://www.qodbc.com/download/243/qodbc.exe

This seems to be happening again.

My customer says the qodbc driver is popping up an error that says  that qodbc has expired. We purchased a new license in November 2007, so I dont think it should really be expired.

Have the customer check the "About" tab in the QODBC Setup Screen that they are really running QODBC v8.0.0.243.
