I have followed the directions for connecting remotely to Quickbooks, but I cannot seem to establish a connection to my Quickbooks file unless this file is specifically opened already on the host PC.  I think I must be missing something.  I'm hoping there's a way around this.  I want to be able to conncet to this Quickbooks file regardless of whether or not this file is open on the Host PC.  Any ideas?

Firstly, the iBiz Remote Connector must be running in your system tray and the QODBC Remote Connector on your remote computer (not running QuickBooks) must specify the full path of the company file (as it exists on the computer with QuickBooks running). See: How do I setup QODBC to auto-login into QuickBooks and start it if it's not running? for more.

I'm having a hard time understanding which computer needs which setup.  Could you specify please?  I have 2 computers.

1. Host machine (the one running Quickbooks)

2. Remote machine

You mentioned that the QODBC Remote Connector on the remote computer must specify the full path of the company file, but I see nowhere on the Remote Connector that I can specify a path.  I am also not sure if the link you provided refers to the host computer or the remote computer.  Thank you so much for your help..

Also - in Quickbooks, when assigning access rights to the FlexQuarters QODBC, the box that says "Allow this application to login automatically" is grayed out.  There is a check in the box but it it grayed out.  In the link you provided, the screen shots show the box enabled, but I cannot figure out how to enable this box on mine.  I am allowed to select a login from the dropdown, but am not allowed to check or uncheck the "Allow this application to login automatically" checkbox.

What could I be doing wrong?

I am still getting this error:

[1/2/2007 4:00:04 PM - 192.168.1.200] Error: 611: Automatic login access denied. If automatic login is required, the QuickBooks administrator may grant permission through the Integrated Application preferences.

Here is a screen shot of how the access rights are set up on my machine.

The trick is to configure unattended "auto-login" mode on the computer running QuickBooks for your company file first directly by using QODBC on the computer running QuickBooks as per: How do I setup QODBC to auto-login into QuickBooks and start it if it's not running?
