I have written an MS Access application that uses linked tables to read QB data in 3 tables (Customer, PurchaseOrder, and PurchaseOrderLine).  When the Access application is opened and goes to read the data in these tables for the first time, it takes about 15 minutes for the connection to respond.  Once this "initial read" takes place, I can move around the records in the table with good response time.

I initially used the Linked Table Manager in Access to make the connections.  Then I tried a "LinkedODBC" sub procuedure module that I read about in a post from 2/21/06.  The table link took no time, but again I saw the 15 minute or more delay to read the file.

Are there any suggestions to speed up the time for this initial read???

Sounds like QODBC is updating the optimized tables with the changes that have been made in your company file since the last time you used QODBC. Try checking the "Verbose Optimizer Status Panel" optiion to see what's really going on.

See: How do I setup the QODBC Optimizer? Where are the Optimizer options? for more options.
