I'm getting what appears to be the notorious API error and can't connect to QB 2006 (UK).  I know I only have the one version of QB installed, it failed when I tried to do my payroll year end submission and I had to uninstall whatever other versions I had then.  I'm really not happy to start uninstalling/reinstalling QB, I've had enough of that and really don't have the time even if I had the patience - are there any other options?

Sorry no, the workaround remains that if you really need to get QODBC working on your computer, you will need to delete your:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit

folder and re-install your version of QuickBooks as a new install and install QODBC again afterwards.

Oh dear!  To make sure I only have to do it once, is there anything else I need to look out for?  I'm wondering if it could be anything as simple as having different QB folders in the main Intuit one for the old software versions, and the company files not in the same folder as the program - does QODBC need everything to be in the expected place?

I couldn't see in the manual if there are any requirements about what files it needs to be where, I would appreciate knowing if there is anything I need to make sure is right so I don't have to keep reinstalling QB and downloading the endless updates...

Thanks

Actually, can you also confirm if QODBC is going to do what I hope it can do - what I'm actually after is the P11 data from QB, to be imported into different software for one of my clients.  Will I be able to get the period by period P11 breakdown for each wages payment for each employee?  I'm hoping so, it's all in the database after all so I should be able to extract it, but it would be good to know!

Thanks

Sorry it's the mixed versions of DLLs in the common folder that causes the problem in the first place. What's the use of Intuit installing different QuickBooks version and years in different folders when it puts all the common files in the one folder anyway??

On the payroll side, try looking at: Billable Payroll - Need to Display More Fields on Invoice

Right, I had a few days' holiday and then some work panics, and today I finally had time to uninstall and reinstall everything, with the resultant repeated restarting of the computer and ages downloading all the QuickBooks updates.

I made sure to totally wipe the Intuit folders as well - but no, I'm still getting the API error message.

I really need to find out if this is going to work quickly - if I can't extract the hundreds of employees' P11 data myself, and in the next week or so, I'm going to have to pay someone a small fortune to do it for me.  Probably using your software!

Should I have also deleted stuff from the Common Files/Intuit folder??  I didn't check that one when I'd uninstalled QuickBooks...

Sorry but can't you read?, the workaround remains that if you really need to get QODBC working on your computer, you will need to delete your:

Hahaha - oh dear, apparently I can't read, or at least I hadn't read your first message properly and then didn't look at it again before trying uninstalling/reinstalling things.  So while I was feeling a bit outraged for a minute, I'm sure I'd be a bit rude in the same situation!

Now I've actually followed the instructions, of course it's worked - thank you!
