Hi,

I am trying to connect to Australian Quickbooks file (version 2007/08 trial) and getting the following error.

Test Connection to QuickBooks Failed.

[QODBC] QB Open Connection Failed. Error = 8004042f, The requested connection type could not be found.

Please help.

Thanks,

Aparna

Your trail version of QuickBooks must be registered with Quicken before QuickBooks will allow integrated applications to access it. Once you have QuickBooks registered, follow the How do I connect to QuickBooks for the first time? procedure.

If your trail version is actually registered, you might have chosen to install a QuickBooks flavor that's not communicating with the SDK. The workaround for this is fairly simple -- if you go to your QuickBooks program files directory and COPY qbw32.exe to qbw32<flavor>.exe where <flavor> is the flavor of QuickBooks you have installed:

Pro
Premier
PremierAccountant
PremierContractor
etc.

Then your QODBC connection issue should go away...

For example, if you have QB Premier, contractor edition installed, then you would copy QBW32.exe to QBW32PremierContractor.exe in the QuickBooks program files directory etc. as per below:

qbw32premieraccountant.exe
qbw32premiercontractor.exe
qbw32premiergeneric.exe
qbw32premiernonprofit.exe
qbw32premierprofessional.exe
qbw32premierretail.exe
qbw32premierwholesale.exe
qbw32pro.exe
qbw32simplestart.exe

Hi Tom,

My trial version was not registered, which I did now but I am getting a different error now. I have only QBW32.EXE in the QuickBooks program files directory, there are not other flavor files. Below is the error I get now:

QODBC requires API version 1.1 or 2.0 to communicate with QuickBooks.

Thanks,

Aparna

QODBC is a fully functional ODBC driver for reading and writing QuickBooks Pro, Premier, Accountant and Enterprise accounting data files only. QODBC doesn't work with QuickBooks EasyStart, Accounting (formally known as Lite), Plus or Small Business Editions.

Hopefully your trial version is for the Premier Edition. If you are running one of the supported editions above, the "QODBC requires API version 1.1 or 2.0 to communicate with QuickBooks" indicates that you have installed more than one version of QuickBooks on your computer. You need uninstall all copies of QuickBooks and re-install one version of QuickBooks only.

Otherwise it is saying you are not running one of the supported editions. You need uninstall QuickBooks and re-install one of the supported editions of QuickBooks instead.

BTW: The Australian version of QuickBooks also doesn't support Integrated Applications like QODBC on Microsoft Windows Vista operating systems. You must use QuickBooks on Windows XP or Windows 2003 platforms.
