We are running Sql Server 2000 on Sql_Server_1 and Quick Books Enterpirse 7 on QB_Server_2. Both servers exist inside the same LAN.
We need detailed step-by-step instructions on exactly how to download/install the QODBC driver Evaluation Version so that we can pull QB data from QB_Server_2 into Sql_Server_1 tables. I am familiar with sp_linkedservers.
We would prefer that the QODBC connection is Read-Only, if that is possible.
Thanks for your help ...
Bill

Thank you, Tom.
A few questions based on the links you posted below:
1) We want to use the 'Remote QODBC' - please confrim we need to install the QODBC Driver on both the QB box (server hosting QB) and also on the sql server box (server where sql server is running, where QB data will be uploaded to);
2) Please confirm that only a user with QB Admin Permissions can download/install the QODBC Driver
3) Is there any way to limit the sql server version of the QODBC driver to 'Read-Only? It is important to us that the sql server connection is limited to Read-Only. Or will it apply the user's permissions automatically? For example, I have Admin rights to sql server, but only Read-Only rights to QB. If I access the QB data through sql server, will I automatically be limited to Read-Only permissions?
Thanks ... |

You will need to install the QODBC Driver on both the QB box (server hosting QB) and also on the sql server box (server where sql server is running. This will require the purchase of two QODBC licenses and your overall performance will be unstable.
To establish the first connection to QuickBooks, QuickBooks must be running and the company file open by the QuickBooks Admin user.
The QODBC Desktop edition is avaliable in either Read Only or a Read Write version. |
