I'm using MS Access 2007 and I have been able to link a table from the Quickbooks online server and I'm able to see the table structure from within Access 2007.  However, everytime I click the linked table in order to retrieve the data I always get "ODBC failed".  Has anyone ran into this before, I would appreceiate any feedback.

Thanks,

Jacob

You need to correct your "ODBC Connect Str" connection string properties to:

ODBC;DSN=QuickBooks Data

like I have here:

or close the link and reopen them.

Everytimne I try to run a query against a linked query to quickbooks or open a table or anything it always pulls up quickbooks makes me copy the link code into the qodbc window...then it takes 5 minutes to get any kind of results back (I'm running road runner so that speed should not be a problem).  Also, the ODBC string you have below is being placed in my description box...I don't see a ODBC connect str under general.

If you know why any of this is happening I would appreciate some insight.

Thanks,

Jacob

Please experiment using VB Demo first and make sure QODBC is working correctly first, then try it with MS Access. Try looking at: How do I use QODBC with QuickBooks Online? and How do I use prompted date ranges in MS Access 2007 using Vista?

I'm not having a problem with VB Demo...when I open VB Demo it automatically brings up qbonline and gives me a link which I insert then I can run queries all day long in VB Demo with no problem.  However, once I open up access 2007 goofy things happen everytime I try to do anything it automatically pulls up qbonline and then gives me a link which I insert, but then if I try to do anything else it does it all over again and about the third time it says odbc failed cann't connect.

Is it supposed to ask for link everytime I open access?  I would like to buy the product because I think it would be useful, but I can't evern get the evaluation copy to work.  Once I build the app I can't have my people messing around with link numbers and waiting 5 miutes just to get a 50 record select * back.

I have read everything you have provided to me.

Thanks...Jacob

Yes, the QuickBooks Online link will always be asked when you open MS Access unless you program your connection. This can be done using: When I use Linked tables in MS Access the ODBC link locks-up? and the online parameters shown in: How do I build a connection string with all the available QODBC parameters? that are explained in How do I use QODBC with QuickBooks Online?
