Adding new item to bill of materials for exsisting ItemInventoryAssembly record |

How can I add a new item to the bill of materials for an existing Assembly?
Using Access I have tried doing an Append to the ItemInventoryAssemblyLine table using the name of the exsisting assembly, but I get an error saying that the name of the list element is already in use.
Also, I have tried begining the query with the listID of the exsting assembly as the first value, but this fails and I get this in the SDK log:
creation time mismatch: the list id 8000010B-1184 provided is valid but doesn't match the requested element
