I had a system for creating invoices in Quickbooks from an external database.

The Quickbooks version was 6 and the QODBC version was 7 (Server version).

Recently the customer updated the Quickbooks version to 8. After that the INSERT queries stopped working with an ODBC error "This function requires the activation of the DESKTOP features". Reading data works with no problems.

I updated my QODBC (it now reads: QODBC Server Edition 2007, Version 8.00.00.240) and re-activated succesfully. I am still getting the same error.

So is my QODBC version 7 or version 8 now?

I suspect that even though is says Version 8.xx my activated version is still 7 and that is why any writes will fail while any reads succeed. I am sure purchasing a version 8 license is not a problem for the customer, but I would like to make sure that this is indeed what the problem is before I have them spend the money.

You can update QODBC at any point of time, but if you update QuickBooks, you will need to purchase a new QODBC CD Key. In your case your client had QuickBooks 2006 and a QODBC CD Key with a Serail Number (.07........) good for up to QuickBooks 2007. For QuickBooks 2008 a new QODBC CD Key is now required to be purchased.

Obtaining a QODBC 8 key and activating it fixed the problem. Thanks!
