I am using Quickbooks Preimier 2008 multi-user, and have 2 "compaines" that I open and close all day. I downloaded the trial version QODBC, and was able to make the connection to Quickbooks and Access.  When I try to close the company which is connected to Access, I get an error "Can not close, another application.....".  I closed Access, and no problem switching companies.

I then connected Access to the closed closed company, and was able to make the connection to Access.  I then tried to open the company which is now connected to Access, and got an error message "Unable to open due to another application....."  It seems like any time Access is connected to Quickbooks, I must first close Access, then switch companies.

I am trying to leave Access connected to one of the companies all the time.   Is there any way to do this, without having to first shut down Access and disconnect?  I tried several different settings at the "Set-up Screen".

Thanks Scott

QuickBooks can only have one company file open at any moment of time. So you can't have a MS Access/QODBC connection open and close QuickBooks. Likewise you can't have a MS Access/QODBC connection open and change the company file.

MS Access is also a little annoying in that it will keep the connection open while it's running, even if you are not doing anything with QODBC. You will need to close MS Access and then change your company file in QuickBooks.

You can either have MS Access automatically start QuickBooks as in: How do I setup QODBC to auto-login into QuickBooks and start it if it's not running? and check the Launch QuickBooks UI option to make QuickBooks visable so you can use it too.

Or you start QuickBooks and have MS Access use the company file that's now open in QuickBooks instead:
