Just downloaded and started to use the 30 day trial and QuickBooks is giving me the above message when I try to set up a database query in excel. It says it won't allow access to the company file and kills process (Error = 80040419). I'm in Australia in case that makes a difference.
Thanks |

Have you followed the: How do I connect to QuickBooks for the first time? procedure and got VB Demo to connect yet?
When Microsoft Office connects to QuickBooks for the first time, QuickBooks will also ask you permission for Office to access your QuickBooks data (in addition to QODBC). |

Yep, the VB Demo seems to work fine and I've also been able to import data into excel via Data / Import External Data / Import Data. Just doesn't like it when I try to set up a Database Query. |

Thanks for your quick responses.
I don't think there's any problem with the function itself, QuickBooks is just telling me that "an application with an invalid certificate is requesting access to the ... company file" "The application calls itself FLEXquarters QODBC" "Certificate Information: The certificate is invalid " "QuickBooks will not allow an application with an invalid certificate to access your company file. Click OK to acknowledge".
When I hit OK, I get the following error message: "QB Session Failed. Error = 80040419 etc etc invalid cert etc etc"
Maybe I just need to try re-installing or something? Wasn't sure what might be the problem so thought I'd ask before doing anything.
Cheers,

Sorry, you say that both VB Demo and Excel "Import External Data" works. If you're using a ActiveX control, it may have an invalid certificate. |

Should I know if I'm using an activex control or is that something that would be running in the background? Pardon my ignorance, just pretty much a front end user here. |

Make sure you haven't checked the "Notify the user before running any application whose certificate has expired" option.
To do this you must start QuickBooks as the Administrator. Go to the "Edit-Preferences" menu item in QuickBooks. Then select the "Integrated Applications" icon from the left side.
Then try doing the: How do I use prompted date ranges in MS Excel? example and tell me the details of the problem you encounter if any. |

Ok, the notify option wasn't checked. I'm not able to complete the 2nd step in the example you suggested - that is when QB denies access.
I decided to start from scratch, removed FLEXquarters from the applications list and unistalled/reinstalled QODBC. When I run VB Demo I actually get a similar problem. QB's is telling me the application calling itself FLEXquarters QODBC is not signed by a digital certificate, but giving me the option to allow access anyway. I can then look up tables, run queries etc through VB Demo. I haven't even tried different queries yet, just selecting various tables, hitting query to get an idea of what it does. The simple Import Data function within excel works the same way.
When I then try to set up a database query I get the message I detailed earlier (and similar to above). In this case I don't get the option to allow access anyway, it's just denied. Microsoft Query opens, but is just blank.
I really haven't been trying anything but the most basic functions. The first time I tried the database query was after viewing your flash example. The only thing I can think of is maybe I downloaded the wrong version. I don't think it's a network issue, because the same problem occurs when using the QB practice company stored on my hard drive. |

The only other instance of this type of problem turned out to be caused by infected MS Office files. Are you using a anti-virus program that's up to date? This is caused by EXCEL.EXE having (or had) a virus, even if it has been removed the virus has damaged the checksum on the file. You need to get a new version of EXCEL.EXE to cure this problem.
Also, a number of anti-virus products, like Norton, don't allow Office add-ins to execute. You may need to enable the Office add-ins, and disable the blocking of the add-in by your anti-virus program. Contact your anti-virus vendor directly for support on how to do this. |
