Try disabling (unchecking) the "Use Case Sensative RefNumber Searches" option. Use Case Sensitive RefNumber Searches when checked means a refnumber of 'ABC' and 'abc' will be different and QuickBooks will use an index internally for a search instead of a complete table scan. (Note: this feature applies to versions of QuickBooks 2005 and higher).

unched and re ran, but still same error.

without Excel open i can use VB demo 32 to do the default comapny name no problem.

But when i open excel/ data/import external data/newDataBaseQuery i still get the error 1000, same error whether returning data to excel or MS Query.

Ok, close VB Demo and try following the steps shown at: How do I use prompted date ranges in MS Excel? with QuickBooks and your company file open.

It means QODBC, MS Excel and MS Query are working and you might just need to set (open) your company file to multi-user mode.

Your Company file should be by default in multi-user mode always unless you are deleting records. In QuickBooks, click on the "File" pulldown:

You can also specify the OpenMode setting in your connection string. See: How do I build a connection string with all the available QODBC parameters? for more.
