I'm eager to try using QODBC, particular experimenting with the Web Server edition to access our Quickbooks company file via a  linked database in SQL Server.

I downloaded the demo installer (qodbc.exe) from your website, and started it up.  It reports version 7.0.0.200; I select the USA version, no key, default installation location, and it gets to 21% installed and appears to lock up.  Even "Cancel" does nothing ....  The status displayed is "Skipping file: C:\..\QODBC Driver for QuickBooks\odbcinst.ini".

I'm running Windows XP Professional, and have Quickbooks Enterprise Solutions 6.0 installed.  Please let me know if you need any additional information.

By the way, I was able to successfully install the read-only desktop version of QODBC which was distributed with Quickbooks Enterprise 6.0.

Thanks.  My user account has full administrator rights to my machine; I tried running the installer from the local administrator account itself, with the exact same results.

I've also tried rebooting into safe mode and installing from there, thinking that perhaps some running process/service was interfering with the installer, but again had the same results.

No doubt I've missed something simple; hopefully we'll be able to figure it out!

A long shot, check that C:\..\QODBC Driver for QuickBooks\odbcinst.ini and odbc.ini files are not marked as read only files. The installer is also trying to write registry entries at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\QODBC Driver for QuickBooks
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\QuickBooks Data

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\QODBC Driver for QuickBooks\odbcinst.ini is definitely not read-only.

C:\Windows\odbc.ini is also read-write.

Looking at the registry, I see the the ODBCINST.INI\QODBC Driver for Quickbooks entries (which is added successfully by the installer since if I rename that key, a new one is generated by the installer).  However the ODBC.INI entry doesn't have a "QuickBooks Data" entry.

Hopefully this helps; let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Try editing and adding this to your C:\Windows\odbc.ini file:

Under the [ODBC 32 bit Data Sources] label somewhere add this line:
QuickBooks Data=QODBC Driver for QuickBooks (32 bit)

Then add this new label and settings at the end of the ini file:

[QuickBooks Data]
Driver32=C:\WINDOWS\system32\fqqb32.dll
DBQ=.
OptimizerDBFolder=%UserProfile%\QODBC Driver for QuickBooks\Optimizer

Not seeing further suggestions, I spent some time trying to get the installer to work, and was able to get it to complete.

Looking at task manager, I watched which processes were being created.  When the installer locked up, I killed the "rundll32.exe" process which had been started during the installation, and this allowed the installer to continue.  It appeared to complete successfully, although I'm obviously concerned that some piece(s) may not have been installed correctly.

I'm not sure if this gives any further clues as to what the underlying problem was, or if you have any idea as to whether my installation is corrupt.  Obviously my confidence is less than I'd like it to be ...
