I have an Access Database form that runs avi files (animating the eyes and mouth to simulate speach and well, moving eyes!) and speaks to me through Excel (reminds me to take my supplements at intervals during the day, plays random music--yes, it's boring at this desk and any break in the monotony helps). However, I cannot connect to QuickBooks when Fred is open and he opens when the database opens.

Found this temporary workaround. On the open event in the Fred form, I connect to a QuickBooks linked table first, create the recordset but do nothing with it, THEN, start Fred's routine of playing the avi files and talking through Excel with his greetings and reminders and warnings. Then I can later open a QuickBooks connection with no problems.

Hate the workaround because it takes time to connect to QuickBooks. Fred is on all my databases and opening a database doesn't always mean I want to open a QuickBooks connection. Sometimes the database is a quick open and close task. Fred is fast. Linking to QuickBooks is slow and takes too much time when having to do that for no reason.

Sooooo, any ideas?

Try using "LinkODBC" sub procedure modules, see: When I use Linked tables in MS Access the ODBC link locks-up? for more.
