We are running QuickBooks Pro 2004 Release R11P and are using the QODBC driver version 5.00.00.104.  We have QuickBooks installed on the server and 3 different users access the QuickBooks files.  About a week ago everyone performed the QuickBooks updates.  Ever since then, our application that uses the QODBC driver to synchronize data has not been working.

We get the following information in the log file:

2007-03-08 14:50:21 QODBC Ver:  5.00.00.104 *********************************************************************************************************************
IsAService: True
Thread Change Begin Session Failed. S0000 00000 [QODBC] QB Begin Session Failed. Error = 80040414, A modal dialog box is showing in the QuickBooks user interface. Your application cannot access QuickBooks until the user dismisses the dialog box.

I have checked to make sure that everyone is running the same version of QuickBooks.  I've logged in to all the files from each computer to see if there is a modal dialog box and I sure don't see one.

I tested the connection using VB Demo and that works fine.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Thank you,

Sarah

Check the "Show Reminders List when opening a Company file" preference is unchecked.

I verified that the "Show Reminders List when opening a Company file" is not checked on all QuickBooks files that we use.

You will need to check this also for QuickBooks account used by QODBC (normally ADMIN). I suggest you get all users out of QuickBooks and check that VB Demo connects using the DSN used by your application and then try your application again with your QuickBooks company file running on the server console (local session).

I was logged in as Admin when I checked for reminders.  Is this setting saved on the computer or by the file?

Yes, by default, but I don't have any details on how your QuickBooks is setup and what connection settings is used by your application that uses the QODBC driver to synchronize data. Basically you have only provided the error message received and no details of what the application is doing and your operating system/network setup. You need to run the application without other users logged in to get a better picture of what's happening.
