Tom -  I know that you have posted a work around but I have not been successful at getting the unattended mode to work.  You mention about the name being too long in 2007, how do we know what too long is?  I am just trying to figure out how to troubleshoot my problem.  It does not seem like it should be this hard to resolve this problem.  I have followed your workaround exactly and it did not work.  Please advise me on what else I can check or do to make this work.  Upgraded from 2004 to 2007.

Appreciate your help!

Copy your company file to a new folder and then try: After upgrading to QuickBooks 2006 or 2007, QODBC "auto-login" unattended mode no longer works? again.

Tom -  Thanks for your quick reply.  I copied the QB file into another folder and I still got an error.  The error that I was getting before moving to a new folder was 8004041D and the new error is 80040430.  I did want to ask you a question about my process.  I follow your steps to remove ODBC connections and then use VBDemo to connect.  Using VBDemo, I make a new connection (machine) and then connect.  I close QB and then update my new connection to the exact location of the file so unattended will work.  I re-open QB to approve the new integrated preferences but it is already marked to allow unattended access.  I do not have to do anything.  It would sound from your directions that I should be marking the box but it is already marked.  I believe this is because of the default settings when using the new version 7 interface.  However, maybe I am doing something wrong.

As mentioned before, I know this should not be this hard.  Any help is appreciated!!!!

My instructions require you to use the "Admin" QuickBooks Admin account, you can't use a user acccount to set up unattended access.

Tom -  I thought I was using the Admin account.  When it says Login as: I do not have an account named Admin.  I have only two users and one of them has their name followed by (Admin).  That is the one I have been selecting.  I then went to QB and signed in as Admin and used the password of the user name (Admin) and it worked.  However, I am not showing Admin as an option when choosing how to log onto QB unattended.  Again, there are only two users in QB's and one is the user name followed by (Admin).  Can I set the Admin account back up or maybe the one user typed their name in front of Admin and should not have.

Suggestions please!

Seeing you're working with a copy of the company file in another folder, remove the one user account and try to rename the user (Admin) account to just Admin, delete the FLEXquarters QODBC integrated applications and then setup two user accounts and try connecting again without a company named in the DSN with QuickBooks and the company file logged in using the QuickBooks "Admin" account.

The staff at Intuit QBES (QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions) would like me to pass the following message to you:

Using the R5 release for Quickbooks Enterprise Solutions Version 8.0, developers can now use their QODBC applications with Quickbooks closed.

Download the R5 update here:
http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/Support/ProductUpdates.aspx

Remember that when using this feature, you have to use 'Locate a company file' or a QODBC connection string with "DFQ=C:\Program Files\QODBC Driver for QuickBooks\sample04.qbw" rather than 'Use the company file that's now open in Quickbooks'.
