Quickbooks Canada and USA on same computer - QODBC Region Key? |

I called quickbooks and they said we can run quickbooks canada 2005 alongside quickbooks USA 2004 on the same computer no problem. They said the problems happen when you try to run USA/canada quickbooks on the same computer when both are same year.
I have installed the quickbooks canada 2005 and it does seem to work with my Quickbooks USA 2004
We currently own QODBC Usa, and I am planning to buy QODBC canada.
However, I talked to someone in sales at QODBC and they said I will not be able to run both versions of QODBC on the same computer. However, the sales person also said that the QODBC developers do have a way that they can run both versions on the same computer for testing. This method involves modifying the registry. I do not have a problem doing this, but I need to know the registry locations to be modified and how this will work before I purchase the QODBC canada. The sales person recommended that I post this question in the forum.
Thanks

I would seriously suggest that you consider running the Canadian and USA versions of QuickBooks on different computers because there's a lot more that can go wrong here than just the QODBC Region key which can be found at:
My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\QODBC Driver for QuickBooks
The valid values are US (USA), CA (Canada), UK (United Kingdon) and OZ (Australia/New Zealand/Asia) however CD Keys are locked to a region value except for US and CA which share the same CD Key. |

Could you elaborate on some of the things I might run into?
Also, do I need to purchase the canadian version of QODBC or can I just switch regions and use the same driver?

What about 2006 usa and 2005 canada? That is what they plan to use in production.
Do they use the same SDK and work better together or would you still recommend using two computers? |

Basically all versions of Canadian, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Asian editions QuickBooks since 2004 are still SDK 3.0 based from the USA edition of QuickBooks 2003.
The USA edition of QuickBooks moved to SDK 4.0 for QuickBooks 2004 and 2005 and is now on SDK 5.0 for QuickBooks 2006.
Are you getting the hint yet? Because of the different SDK levels, to handle worldwide support for QODBC, I have to run four notebooks with different QuickBooks country combinations. |
