Can't open Access Table |

Just downloaded the trial version. Installed and set up per the online instructions. Also reviewed the Access tutorial to set up Access properly. I do get data and make successful queries against my QB Pro 2008 data via the VB Demo. However I can't open any tables in Access 2000. I get an error "Microsoft Access can't open the table in datasheet view". When I try to open the table in design view, I get "Table is a linked table with some properties that can't be modified". I get this error on all tables that I try to open. Any help would be appreciated. |

Tom – thanks for the reply. I have followed the “How do I setup QODBC to work with Microsoft Access 2000” tutorial and everything seems to go like the tutorial and I do pull the link table names into Access but when I click on the table names I get the “"Microsoft Access can't open the table in datasheet view". When I try to open the table in design view, I get "Table is a linked table with some properties that can't be modified".
I followed your other suggested link and confirmed my copy of QB Pro 2008 is registered.
One thing I noticed in the “How do I setup QODBC to work with Microsoft Access 2000” tutorial where one thing went differently is at the “Select Data Source” box – I selected my data souce from the “Machine Data Source” tab, not the “File Data Source” tab as illustrated in the tutorial. I did this because my DSN can’t be found in the “File Data Source” tab. I do not know if this makes any difference.
Otherwise the installation went well, a DSN was created, a connection was confirmed, and I can pull data using the VB Demo.
Any suggestions to get me up and running would be appreciated. |

Selecting a "Machine Data Source" is actually better. Select the Queries tab and try Create Query in Design Mode view instead. |

No luck – I am able to create in design view the query I want and save the query with the fields I want, but when I try to execute the query, nothing happens. There are no error messages or no lockup; just nothing happens. Any ideas? |

Do you see a "hour glass" on the QODBC Icon in your system tray? I'm guessing "yes". You need to restrict the query to return a sub-set of data instead of all the data. Try a smaller table with less data like:
SELECT * from VendorType |

Maybe a clue? - there is no QODBC icon in my system tray when I am trying to do this. Come to think of it, I have never seen the QODBC icon in my tray. I still get a successful VB Demo and good test connection in the setup screen, but can't open Access table. |

My version is a 30 day demo version and is V9.00.00.253. Would you recommend and re-download and re-install? |

The QODBC installer needs to be installed for each Windows user. Sounds like you installed QODBC and then logged in as another user. Install QODBC again using the user account you are using now.
BTW: Your Windows user account must have "admin" privileges to use QODBC. If you are still using Windows 98.... don't bother. |
