When trying to connect to QODBC Server Version, I get the following error:

IsAService: True
Open Connection Failed. S0000 00000 [QODBC] QB Open Connection Failed. Create DCOM Instance Error = 8000401a, Unknown error.. Created qbXMLRP2 OK.
SDK Module: QBXMLRP2EQODBCInteractive.exe

Below is a summary of our circumstance.  Hopefully you will be able to provide some information that will help...
  • QODBC, Quickbooks, Coldfusion, and SQL Server are installed on the same Windows 2003 Server, 64-bit Edition
  • I followed directions to set up the Web Server Edition using DCOM, found here: http://www.qodbc.com/qodbcweb.htm
  • The "Test Connection to Quickbooks" button as well as the VB test are functioning properly.
  • I attempted to use the Automatic DCOM Configuration tool, and nothing happened.  No error, no results.  The Command Prompt window appears for a fraction of a second, then disappears.  Feeling optimistic, I ran the included VBS script, which also didn't work. (By the way you may want to update that script to accomodate searching a 64-bit registry and its Wow6432Node subtree - I got an error when the script went searching for the install directory.  After modifying the script to find the key, I get an error saying it can't create "DCOMPerm.")
  • Since the automated tool failed I followed manual config instructions (http://www.qodbc.com/QODBCWebManualDCOMXPPro.htm) and have verified that the settings reflect those found in the linked document.
  • I followed instructions to use SQL Server Management Studio in tests (http://www.qodbc.com/qodbcsqlserver.htm) as well as configure our Coldfusion Server (http://www.qodbc.com/QODBCWebColdFusion.htm) and received the same error in each of these clients.

Try looking at: How do I manually setup the QODBC DCOM Servers on Windows XP Pro and Windows 2003 Server? and Does QODBC work with Coldfusion?

Some of the information on the USA website for QODBC: http://www.QODBC.com is out of date, and while I have updated the information on this forum, we currently don't support 64 bit environments.

Thanks for the reply, Tom.

As I mentioned in my original post, I already followed the instructions for manually setting up DCOM, to no avail.  Since the error is returned by both SQL Server management tools and Coldfusion, the second link you provided probably won't solve it, either.

The sample CFM file provided fails for qbXMLRP2eInteractive.exe, which certainly is the cause for the SQL error string I reported.  Yet I have followed the directions - and confirmed the proper settings twice - in the post you referenced "How do I manually setup the QODBC DCOM..."

Can you provide any alternate course to help narrow down what I may be doing wrong?

Thanks

paul

Did you reboot the server? Does auto-login mode work? (see How do I setup QODBC to auto-login into QuickBooks and start it if it's not running? )

I suggest you first try to get a simple IIS connection working first as per:  How can I see QuickBooks data in a Internet Explorer Browser using Windows XP?

Tom,

Yes I rebooted to no avail.  Yes, auto-login seems to be working fine.

No, the simple IIS connection is working; the error I posted below were returned by both the SQL client and Coldfusion (i.e, a web browser).

Since the testDCOM.cfm fie fails both of the .exe lines, I am sure the issue is with qbXMLRP2eInteractive.exe.  Accordingly I have checked and rechecked the instructions in "How do I manually setup the QODBC DCOM Servers on Windows XP Pro and Windows 2003 Server?" and am confident that they are set according to those instructions.  Under what circumstance might the included instructions not be sufficient?

If qbcust.asp works ok, then you have a security issue with the system account used by both the SQL client and ColdFusion. This account needs to have all rights to the QODBC folder and the QODBC DCOM servers.

Tom, I decided to abandon ship on the DCOM method and switch to Remote Connect.  Things seem fine using this method.  Thanks for your time.
