Hello Everyone or Anyone!

I am suddenly coming across problems installing Flexodbc 3.1 on our new computers.

1) One with Vista 32 bit is give the message "FlexODBC Registration code is invalid"

2) Other machines with XP on them are telling me that we have exceeded our user count. As I was under the impression that users were counted on a concurrent basis and we never have more that 2 people accessing it at the same time our user count of 4 seems ample to cover this.

Has anyone out there had a similar problems and if so can anyone help please?

Richard

FlexODBC v3.1 Build 10 is dated April 15, 2002, way before the release of Microsoft Windows Vista, and is not supported on Vista. The most common reason for a User Count Exceeded error (apart from when it really is the case) is the user session being run doesn't have full read/write permissions to the folder where the datafiles are located.

Hello Tom

Sorry it has taken so long to respond. Yes you are quite right it was a case of permissions not user sessions. We had just moved to a new domain and the user rights/permissions were set up differently so your handy hint helped a lot!

Shame that FlexODBC error messages are so incredibly crass & misleading. Shouldn't they be encouraged to address that issue? If they don't they could end up with a lot of very unhappy clients who may just throw it away and move to a competitor!!!

All the best

Richard

Actually your DataFlex application would have also failed on the first record write as you also have to have full read/write permissions to the folder where the datafiles are in order to lock the databases during record updates and creation.
