I have recently purchased a new license.  I have the old QODBC driver installed and the new one is installed on the same computer but is used for a different application.  When first installed, the new license worked fine.  Now I find out from my users that neither application is able to connect to Quickbooks.  Each application has its own Quickbook installation as well.

The only info that I can find on this error is that I have to activate the product.  I have already done this for both licenses and if I try to reactivate it tells me that the product has been activated and I have no more available licenses.

These applications are mission critical to the everyday processes of our offices.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Sorry, but only one copy of QODBC and one version of QuickBooks can be on any given machine. You should only have the latest version of QuickBooks and QODBC on the computer.

So I can't have 2 different applications hitting 2 different installations of QB at the same time on the same machine?  We have 2 separate businesses that are located in the same buildings using the same computers.

That makes no sense at all.

Let me just run right in and tell my boss that he is going to have to reorganize his entire computer layout.

Okay, I was mistaken about something.  There is only 1 installation of Quickbooks with 2 separate company files.

Can I use one QODBC install for each company file?  Can they be on the same computer?

What would you suggest that I do in this situation?

Both company files in QB have to be accessible by the main accountant.  Each separate company files needs to be access by the person that handles that companies everyday workings.

I need to be able to post data using QODBC to both company files with no cross over of data.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Oh, one more thing.

I have 2 licenses.  I need to use 1 for one application and a connection to QB, I guess a separate license and installation of it.  I need the other 1 for another application and a connection to another installation of QB.  I guess on separate machines since that is the only way this works.

What do I need to do to remove the last QODBC license that I purchased so that I can move it to another machine?

What do I need to do to get the old license for QODBC working again on the computer that it is already on?  No, I do not want to buy and upgraded QODBC for this one.  The old one works just fine.  Thanks.

QuickBooks can only have one company file open at the one point of time. QODBC will connect to the company file currently open or you can automate it to login into the company file you want to use. See: How do I setup QODBC to auto-login into QuickBooks and start it if it's not running?

QuickBooks can only have one company file open at the one point of time

Are you sure about this?  Each accounting person has their own company file open almost all day everyday.  They have never had a problem having them open at the same time.  One of the company files is usually open by 2 people at the same time.  We have 5 user licenses for Quickbooks.

You have me really confused now.  How is QODBC going to know which company to connect to if I can only create 1 QODBC connection per license?  If I can't set both licenses up on the same computer then how would I be able to connect to 2 different companies, even if they aren't open at the same time?  The invoices for each company are prefaced by their initials and they have their own products not associated with the other company.  I don't understand what you are telling me in your last post.  Maybe I am dense but I don't get it.

We are just going to move the second company's files and QODBC to another computer, I guess.  I don't know what else to do to get it to work.  The code can not be rewritten at this time.
