Remote Connector Questions |

As I read thru the forum about the remote connector, I am somewhat confused and could use some clarification. After installing QODBC on the server (where the Quick Books company file resides) you configure the Remote connector as a service and put in the IIS website or IP address and port #, along with some other settings. Then start the service. Then on the Client side you create a ODBC connection using a connection string? or do you need to purchase a client QODBC driver and setup a QODBC connection?? And configure the ODBC or QODBC to use the http:// address you used when setting up the Server side.
So my question are:
- Do you need to purchase a QODBC license for each desktop that uses the Remote connector
- Do you setup the connection string on each desktop and do they need access to the QB company file on the server.
- After you set-up the server can you test the client connection from the server or do you need to test it from a client (I am remotely programming an ASP website so I do not have access to client machines)
- I have DCOM setup and working, but for my users to be able to use the QODBC connection they would have to log into the server for my ASP pages that interface with QB to work??
- My ASP virtual directories use port 2666, do I need to set my Remote connector on the server to the same port? or does it need a port of it's own like 2080?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance |

The QODBC Remote Connector is for client desktop applications (like Excel) to talk directly to a server running QuickBooks where QuickBooks isn't installed on the client workstations. A QODBC license is required for every client or server QODBC is installed on.
If the clients only need to access your webpages whether it by the internet or intranet, you don't need the QODBC Remote Connector. |

This issue I have is; as soon as I change to the Remote connector, my web pages that interface with Quick Books, timeout, and if I switch back to DCOM and do not run the mstsc /v:servername /console the web pages that access Quick Books get an access driver error. I have looked at the documentation for the advanced tab on the QODBC driver and have tried changing settings but to no avail. If I run my pages on a client box should my pages run with the DCOM server?
Thanks for all of you help, you have been the only person to answer any of my posts and it has really helped. |

Also if I do not open the Quick Books Application before I open the web page it fails also. I have set the integrated application setting to open automatically but it is not working. I have seen posts on this but have not found a solution.
Thanks in advance. |

I have figured out the issue, it is the fact the Quick Books will not open automatically when QODBC queries it. I have set it in the integrated application section of Quick Books and also in the QODBC interface. I have read a number of posts on this issue (looking for other items) I need to read thru them again. We are running QB 2006 Account premier and lastest QODBC driver and updates. Any Suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Also I have had success inserting records into the Purchase Orders and Sales Order tables, getting info from the Customer, Vendor and ItemOtherCharge tables. But when I try and insert into the ItemOtherCharge table, where all of our Items reside, I get a lexical error. Do you have an example of inserting no the ItemOtherCharge table, I cannot find one in the forum posts. I thought about the Item table but in needs the parent ref list id, which should come from the ItemOtherCharge table.
Thanks again. |
