I am trying to setup QODBC in a remote configuration, following the instructions at http://www.qdeveloper.com.au/forum.php?homeinclude=topicdetails&forum_id=1&category_id=2&post_id=48.

I am running the trial version of QODBC, Vista and QB 2007 on my local workstation, and Windows 2003 and CF8 on the server.

I went through the Vista setup instructions for QODBC and I can get the test and the VB demo to run if I am using a standard user account (not part of the admin group), and QuickBooks is running.

Problem #1: If I shut down QuickBooks, even after selecting all of the options to allow QODBC to work even it QuickBooks is not running.  Also, after setting all of this up, will I be able to work under my usual Admin account, or will I always have to use the standard user account when making this connection?

Then, I setup the remote connector on the workstation and setup QODBC on the Windows 2003 server.  I added the IP address, username, and password to the configuration on the server and I setup the DSN in ColdFusion.

Problem #2: When I run the TestDCOM.cfm script on the server, all 4 lines come back as failed.  Running the DisplaySQL.cfm script comes back with no records (no CF errors).

So, is there anything obvious I have missed or any pointers to getting this working?

Thanks

To use QuickBooks and QODBC on Microsoft Windows Vista you must only use standard user account. The QODBC/iBiz Remote Connector cannot be used on Microsoft Windows Vista as these 2005 components precede Vista.

See: How do I setup QODBC to auto-login into QuickBooks and start it if it's not running? for more.

"The QODBC/iBiz Remote Connector cannot be used on Microsoft Windows Vista."

So does this mean there is not a way with QODBC to setup a remote connection with another server when the workstation with QuickBooks installed is running Vista?

Thanks

Is this something that is being worked upon or is Vista going to be ignored as a supported OS?

The problem here is not QODBC, it's Intuit's requirement that the Intuit qbXML SDK must call QuickBooks in non-evelated (non-admin or system user) mode under Vista, meaning that items that run as a server can't communicate with QuickBooks.
