I'm trying to configure QODBC Server Edition in a configuration that seems to be somewhat unique, and I'm not having any luck. Since I'm lost I'll just explain our situation and state our goals, and hopefully you will be able to shed some light on the best method...
We are dealing with two servers:
- Server 1: Windows 2003 64-bit Terminal Server on which the Quickbooks client is installed and accessed by multiple users.
- Server 2: Windows 2003 64-bit Server on which the Quickbooks data file, SQL Server 2000, and intranet web server reside.
I need simply to connect from Server 2 to the Quickbooks data file, which again is also on Server 2 even though the Quickbooks client is installed on Server 1. I need to be able to connect using both SQL Server Management Studio and the ColdFusion MX application server that both reside on Server 2.
Because I've seen the special instructions on your site for terminal services/Citrix, as well as the document about SQL Server and another document on Remote Connecions, I am at a loss. I'm not sure which of these instructions apply to our requirements.
I'd appreciate any direction you can provide...

Firstly, QODBC talks to QuickBooks ... not the company file. We simply tell QuickBooks what company file we want to work with.
So to cut a long story short, you simply need to install a copy of QuickBooks on Server 2. Once that's done you can establish a direct connection to QuickBooks on the Server Console (local session) while logged in as the Server 2 administrator. |
