Used new version opportunity to swap machines. Received above error - QB Open Connection Failed. Error = 8004042f , The requested connection type could not be found.

Uninstalled QODBC and QB and re-installed following all instructions and tried again - same result. Only FAQ related to this error talks about Canadian version of QB and fix seems unrelated.

Running WXP Pro SP 2 with Aus QB 2007/08 and QODBC V7. QB directory is C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks Premier

Make sure your new copy of QuickBooks is registered with Quicken in Sydney. Then check your QODBC Setup Screen "About" tab for the status of your QODBC license. A QuickBooks version 2006/07 QODBC CD-Key will not work with QuickBooks 2007/08.

Do not post your QuickBooks Installation or Activation Keys or your QODBC CD Keys on this public forum.

See also: Error - QB Open Connection Failed. Error = 8004042f using Canadian QuickBooks for known other reasons for this error.

Which QuickBooks edition do you have, Pro, Premier, Enterprise? If Premier, which QuickBooks flavour did you install?

If you have a copy of qbw32premiergeneric.exe in the QuickBooks program files directory: C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks Premier, then you need to rename qbw32premiergeneric.exe to qbw32premiergeneric.bad and make a copy of QBW32.exe and rename it as: qbw32premiergeneric.exe

Well the other reason for this type of problem can be because of multiple year versions and different QuickBooks editions like EasyStart, Accounting and Plus also installed on your computer.

BTW: QODBC can not be run on Microsoft Windows Vista with the current Australian versions of QuickBooks.

Sorry, if you really need to get this working on your computer, please delete your:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit

folder and re-install your Australian Quickbooks Premier 2007/08 edition as a new install and then install QODBC again afterwards over the top of the copy you have (you don't need to activate QODBC again ... so skip over the CD Key). Integrated Applications are only designed by Intuit to work with one (SDK) copy of QuickBooks.

Make sure your copy of QuickBooks is registered and follow the: How do I connect to QuickBooks for the first time? procedure.
