We have been running QODBC 6.0 with Quickbooks 2006 for a year.  Randomly, the driver seems to encounter an error, and fail to recognize the cd-key.  When it does this it falls back into evaluation mode.  Previously I've been able to re-activate the cd-key through the Activate tab in the driver setup screen.  It happened again today, and now when I try to re-activate the software, it tells me that the number of activations has exhausted.  I'm not activating the key on multiple servers, I always reactivate it on the same machine.  We are running the server read/write edition of the driver, and often do more than 20 updates in a pass.  Is there a work-around to getting my key reactivated?

The normal reason for this would be that the MAC or NIC Address of your server has changed due to a network card change (or replacement) or the Primary NIC address has been changed on the server on dual network router setups. Most motherboards have onboard network cards these days, so this is becoming less and less a problem. Does this describe what's been happening on your server?

We haven't changed any of the hardware in the server, so it shouldn't have a new MAC address.  Any other suggestions?

Do you have more than one network card or network routers on your server? What does the QODBC setup screen "about" say about the license? Has your Software ID changed? Please call your local sales office in your region directly:

USA: FLEXquarters.com LLC on: 800-932-6448 or +1 248-360-7842
Asia Pacific: Data Access Worldwide on: (03) 9761 3644 or +61 3 9761 3644
UK: Architectronic Ltd on: 0845 638 3730 or +44 (0)845 638 3730

with the details as this type of registration support can't be done here on this public forum.

The evaluation period for QODBC is only 30 days, so it's not possible to drop back into evaluation mode after a year. The product would say the evaluation has expired and not work unless you're running QuickBooks Enterprise 2006 (USA edition), and then it would be in READ ONLY mode only. This would lead me to question what you are doing in the first place. My guess is that you're really saying, "Randomly, the driver seems to encounter an error, and fail to recognize the cd-key.  When it does this it falls back into READ ONLY mode."

There's only one network card installed in the server.  We recently moved locations, so the outbound ip address of the server may have changed, however the problem started before we moved.  I called in to have our license reset, however I would like to know if there's a way to prevent this from happening in the future.

We are running Quickbooks Enterprise 2006, however when the driver fails to recognize the cd-key it does fall back into evaluation mode.  I was able to re-register my license yesterday after talking to our local sales office, however today the About screen from the QODBC setup says this:

QODBC Driver for Quickbooks
QODBC Server Edition 2006

Version 6.00.00.176

This evaluation copy will expire in 29 days

Serial Number ############
Licensed to (My Company)

And then the contact and copyright information at the bottom.  Any thoughts on what could cause the driver to fail to recognize the cd-key this often?

Well if I was you I would manually activate the CD Key. The license key is actually hidden in I9K4UQLW.ocx when the registration system is run and is found in your C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder. Please rename it to .bad, download QODBC v7.00.00.207 and reinstall QODBC (don't reboot) and give the manual activation method a go. See: How do I activate QODBC? I get an error from the QODBC activation server? for the procedure.

You will need to ensure that all users, services, the Internet Guest Account (IUSR_<machine_name>), ASP.NET Machine Account (ASPNET) and INTERACTIVE accounts have read and write permissions to I9K4UQLW.ocx in your System32 directory. It may be a hidden, system file.

Will I be able to register my v6 key if I install the v7 driver?  Is there somewhere I can download the latest release of v6 to reinstall?
