I need to write to the Company file with the User Interface open.  Is that possible?

I currently have the driver setup to the company file and the auto-login set.

There is no issue writing to the tables if the UI is open.

Yes, see: How do I setup QODBC to auto-login into QuickBooks and start it if it's not running?

I meant to say,  Is it possible to read/write to the company file with the UI closed?

Yes, in unattended mode, QODBC will start QuickBooks in background mode without the User Interface open unless you are using a old version QuickBooks.
