I was tought to work with SQL Server this way:
1. Open connection
2. Do Select, Insert, whatever
3. Close Connection
With QODBC opening connection takes pretty much time (15-20 seconds on local machine, and up to 2 minutes in the network).
First idea is not to close connection at all while the program is running. Is there any other suggestions?

| When it comes to QODBC we recommend to open the connection at the start and close the connection when the application is closed or terminated. If a large amount of inserts are being done, close and reopen the connection at around 2000 inserts to free memory. |

One of my friends working as a consultant for many companies who use QuickBooks, told me that his clients report corruptions of QuickBooks data file, when QuickBooks is used in multi-user mode and QuickBooks is used by more than one user at a time.
Is it true? If yes, then keeping connection open increase the chance of corruption.
I do not have any experience yet, because my company uses QuickBooks in a single user mode. I'm just afraid to go the wrong way.

| I'm affraid that's an urban legend. Since the release of QuickBooks 2006 in USA, the backend database is the Sybase Anywhere SQL Server Engine. This is very realible database, what users do their computers is another story. |
