Saw other posts about error 80040408, but none seemed to be the same as mine, please see:
2007-12-04 15:44:55 QODBC Ver: 7.00.00.214 ********************************************************************************************************************* IsAService: False Begin Session Failed. S0000 00000 [QODBC] QB Begin Session Failed. Error = 80040408, Could not start QuickBooks. Begin Session errors can be caused when running ASP or other system service and not setting the "Advanced" button option of either "Use DCOM Servers" or "Remote Connector"
Getting this error when we try to import data to Quickbooks Contractors Edition 6.0 using a custom 3rd party app that pulls data from a website. Was working fine until Monday night, jobs run as scheduled tasks twice a night. Nothing else has changed on server. Tried to uninstall/reinstall qodbc driver, same error. Test connection to quickbooks is ok, any ideas? |

Yes, thank you for your prompt reply. Quickbooks was not running at the time of the error, and it is set up to operate in unattended mode. Any more ideas?

Did you test that the company still operates in unattended mode using VB Demo? Also when you reinstalled QODBC, the setiings would have been reset back to the defaults, so the settings will need to be reconfigured. Please contact the developer of the 3rd party app directly for support. |

I reconfigured all the settings, I recordedthem before I performed the reinstall, and the error began over the weekend, before I did the uninstall/reinstall, so I do not think I need to contact the 3rd party App suppport yet. Can you enlighten me on testing using VB Demo? I assume that is different that test connection to quickbooks from teh qodbc setup screen? |

Yes, it appears QODBC is working correctly when called by a desktop application. I note that your 3rd party app is run via the Windows Scheduler twice a day. This would mean that you should have a QODBC Server Edition license and that the QODBC DCOMs were configured originally. Please check with whoever setup your system in the first place on what your system setup requirements are. |
