I have a working application that uses QODBC successfully against an QuickBooks Enterprise 7.0 system.   We are considering doing the upgrade to Enterprise 9.0.

In the feature list for Enterprise 9.0 is says that is has a full SQL database underneath it now and I have seen some discussions online that indicated that they are using a version of Sybase as their SQL database in this release.    If this is true then what  role does QODBC play in an Enterprise 9.0 environment?

I have used your software to provide ODBC read & Update access to the Eenterprise 7.0 environment and based upon your release of a new version would assume that I might need to upgrade QODBC to work with Enterprise 9.0 but the statements from the Quickbooks website lead me to believe that I can go directly at the underlying database now for both read and update.

Would certainly like your input before I make the final decisions on how to proceed.    Thanks!

Although QuickBooks now uses the Sybase Anywhere SQL server engine as their backend, the data is encrypted and the only way to get to it is via Intuit's qbXML SDK which QODBC uses. So regardless of the backend change, everything remains the same. You will need to use QODBC v9 with QuickBooks 2009 or Enterprise 9.

Tom,

Thanks for the very quick reply and information.   this finally all makes sense.

Can you point me to any threads that discuss what I need to know about upgrading to the new version of QODBC V9 so that I can do my installation planning?   Also is there a cost associate with the new version or does my current license allow me to upgrade to V9?

Thanks again!

USA editions of QuickBooks Enterprise v9 come with a FREE QODBC Enterprise (Read only) Desktop license. QODBC v9 automatically works in this mode if it detects QuickBooks Enterprise v9. For existing QODBC Read Write and Server Edition licenses you need to purchase a new CDKey Code for QuickBooks 2009 or Enterprise v9.
