Hi,

I am trying to deliver reports via Microsoft's SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services.  I have a Windows 2003 server with QuickBooks 6 and the latest QODBC driver using DCOM.  I was repeatedly getting this error:  "QB Open Connection Failed. DCOM Instance Error= 8000401a" until I set the component services permissions correctly on the QBXML... DCOM config items.

Now, I no longer get the error.  I can run the report in the MS Business Studio with no problems (the report always works fine in the Business Studio), but when I run it through reporting services, it hangs with a generating report message.  This seems to hang reporting services and quickbooks and a reboot will clear everything so I can hang it again.

Help!  How do I troubleshoot this?  How can I fix this.  I have been fighting this driver with Quickbooks for way too long.

Thanks,

Dave.               :-)

Sorry, you haven't stated what the error is or what you are trying to run (or how?)? I also can't tell if you have linked tables working correctly with SQL Server 2005 yet? Try looking at your configuration setup as per: Does QODBC work with MS SQL Server 2005 Linked Tables?

The report is created in the business studio connecting directly to the QODBC driver.  It only references one table, InvoiceLine, and works correctly from the business studio.  When it is installed in the Reporting Services, and run via a web interface, it used to fail on a DCOM permissions error.  Now I get no error, but it hangs waiting for the report to generate.  I do not receive any errors.

I get these same results whether I connect locally or remotely to the IIS server.  The server contains all the components, Quickbooks, SQL Server, Reporting Services, QODBC, and IIS.

Please ask if you have any additional questions.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave.               :-)

Ok, I suggest you debug IIS first using qbcust.asp found in: How can I see QuickBooks data in a Internet Explorer Browser using Windows XP?
